Elkhart, Ind. (August 9, 2021) – Another stellar field of Outlaw Super Late Models lined up at Berlin Raceway for the Reveal The Hammer – Sweet 100. The 100-lap feature honoring the life of race car driver and motorsports businessman Randy Sweet, saw Steve Needles become a two-time winner during the inaugural Reveal The Hammer season. The evening began with an epic battle for the Allstar Performance Quick Time award. It looked like Tyler Roahrig would take the honor after topping Ray Clay by .006 second, but Steve Needles was the last driver to qualify. The St. Joseph, Michigan native grabbed the award with a 14.961 second lap, just .001 second quicker than Roahrig. The starting grid saw race officials invert the top eight qualifiers putting Needles and Roahrig in row four. The start saw pole sitter Shawn Amor lead the first 23 laps, when Adam Terry grabbed the top spot. By lap 38, Terry had mechanical issues to end the night. This put Needles in the lead with Roahrig right on his rear spoiler in second. A real battle was shaping with between to the two Outlaw stars, when steering issues stopped the familiar #24 on lap 51.
Needles held the lead the rest of the way, including holding off a late charge by Brian Bergakker, until a broken spindle sidelined the Round 3 winner. Steve Needles took his second Tour win. Early race leader Shawn Amor recovered nicely to finish second with Brian Maxim taking the final spot on the podium.
The win by Needles ensures his spot at the top of the list in the Reveal The Hammer Outlaw Super Late Model Tour Championship.
The next Tour race is Saturday, August 28 at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.
